Sealant removal products?

Has anyone tried and had any success with any of the commercially available 'silicone sealant eater'gels and liquids that you can buy in DIY shops etc, when using them on whatever sealant would have been used to bed a Lewmar hatch acrylic into the anodised aluminium frame?

I have mechancnically removed as much as I can (prior to fitting new piece of acrylic) but wonder if I can get the residue off by chemical means?

These sealant removers seem to be for silicone type sealants but I have no idea what Lewmar will have used in their factory to bed the acrylic into the frame.

I have used silicon eater. It works, slow, several applications but worked. Of course it is a little messy but didn't damage the wood or chrome.
