Hey folks,
I have a quick question regarding the Volvo 110s Saildrive. This is my first time changing the large diaphragm seal. The teardown went well, managed to find some Duralac protect the alu-steel mating surfaces but what struck me as really odd was the fact that the 6 bolts that pass up from the leg portion (through where the diaphragm seal is and shown below ) in to the gearbox, were all covered in some sort of flexible sealant. Both the threads and the head / washer had this on.
Is this normal and should I put some Permatex on them when I re-assemble? I honestly can't see the point in this other than some corrosion resistance but the section of the lef the bolts pass through is the raw water jacket...
Any and all thoughts are welcomed.
Cheers!
