Dehler manual says - if my German still works - that a sealant is used to seal the water tank inspection hatch. I have nitrile rings for these tanks. What should I use along with these rings as sealant?

According to my on-line translator that translates to

"To clean the tank, an inspection lid is mounted. The lid is with thick mass zusatzlich eingedichtet. Only with a long-armed charitable organization stuff lafit to itself the lid zerstdd-rungsfrei unscrew"

So what's the problem?

Je crois que vous constaterez qu'ils parlent de l'enduit étanché entre le couvercle d'inspection et le panneau mobile. N'importe quel enduit étanché qui est convenable pour l'eau potable, sûrement, serait bien.

The problem seems to be your on line translator. It needs some vaseline.

I added a water tank inspection hatch, matching the existing one that is around 30cm square. I bought neoprene sheet from Seals Direct, although nitrile would be almost as good, and used silicone sealant to bed it. I would think that silicone grease would also work well.

I can't see the point of using sealant when you have a flexible gasket. The gasket alone will make a seal or what is it for?

The gaskets on my two hatches are fairly hard, inch wide neoprene. I didn't think they would flex enough to provide a leak-tight joint for what is a very violent action when under sail. The top of the tank, to which the hatch is fitted, is GRP layup, so not very smooth.

Yes I have had to remove this sealant adhesive after changing things around and the seal can be cut with a sharp blade. To give you an idea I attached a piece of polished stainless steel to our steel rudder and after a year it was still there I cut it off wityh a sharp knife.
