Seal 22`Two wheels of the four wheels at the heel of my proctor mast have seized! Can I get a replacement or any tips on fixing please. The gooseneck is not good too?
The wheels being seized are a major problem. I presume it is wheels in a aluminium casting with stainless steel axles.
So you need to remove the axles. There have been many posts on freeing SS from Al using penetrating oils or even coca cola but heat seems to be the best method.
Due to corrosion you may well destroy the mast base which could be difficult expensive to replace.
My similar sized mast had individual turning pulleys at the base for the internal halyards. I have converted at the time of mast replacement to bringing the halyard out through a slot in the side of the mast about a metre above deck. There is then a turning block attached to the cabin top which turns the halyard from vertical to the aft direction in one block. Saves the friction of one turning block.
Try to stagger the exit slots in height and different sides to avoid weakening the mast.
other wise good luck wioth freeing the wheels.
I am not sure what the gooseneck problem is but I ended up rebuilding my gooseneck from SS scraps. good luck olewill
