Seagulls (British) Love em or hate em this is worth a read

Wow! What an interesting mag. Thanks for that Yantlet. Must admit that I hate them though :-( Years ago I bought a brand new forty minus and had no end of trouble with it. In the end I bought a Mercury. What a difference!

Really interesting about the phonetic alphabet. Only common word across all the various versions was C - charlie. Imagine using the old RN Xerxes for X. Mind you in those days X-rays hadn't been invented (or discovered).

An old Raf chappie used to land at our airfield, and he still used the WW2 phonic alphabet. The lads in the tower did their best not to Titter at the archaic language, He definitely used sugar, easy and able....not sure about willie!

That mag would be better with sound effects. there was at least one photo where the helm was wearing ear protectors

Lat and Long please Captn, if it only went in in 97 I reckon a squirt with WD 40 and a wipe of the plug I can have it up and running in no time.

I thought they ran on WD40, or is it QuickStart spray?

Ha Ha Mr Pleiades; I dont think so.....

Then you would be wrong. After the d-day landings hundreds of Seagulls were lost in the sea & for years afterwards the French fishermen were digging them up, cleaning them off & using them. Bearing in mind that the D-day landing design brief to British Seagull was for something extremely simple, cheap & reliable for one day's use only, the engines have proved to be extremely long lasting.

If yours wasn't reliable, that was your fault, not the motor's.

Are old Seagulls worth anything. I saw one in a junk shop a few days ago, is it a worthwhile "investment"

It depends how old & what condition doesn't it? An average runner will net you about 50 quid on flea-bay, an origina Marsden in good condition will net you hundreds. Sadly, lots of them simply seem to be stripped for spares on flea-bay & yet there are new & good quality used parts available from SOS.
