Seagull needs new cork!

Thought I had better test the Seagull as it has not been used over a Spanish summer!
The cork on the fuel stop has dried so it leaks. Last time a rather younger ghastly Mormon fixed it by soaking it in water but his useful tips is not working this time!
I wonder if SOS would have them and also how to fit them. The cork is in a sort of slot so I would have expected the assembly to unscrew to allow fitting and possibly even to tighten and so compress the cork. I can get half the assembly to turn but it will not unscrew. Possibly I could fit some o rings if I had them but they would have to be small but very thick.
Any experts on this bit of technology please??

Take out the sliding valve insert, punch the spindle out, fit the new cork, re-assemble, oil the cork so it slides in more easily.

The taps were common fitment on ald motorbikes so if you Googleise it you should be ok. I knew someone who stored his cork in a small jar of olive oil over the winter. Golden days.
I have given up with them and fitted a more trendy replacement.

The taps were made by Ewarts and repacement corks can be bought cheaply on eBay, or you could make your own

Take the plunger out and leave it in a jar of 2 stroke for 24 hours. Works for me every time.

Yes that usually works but I had a Seagull in the garage, unused and with an empty tank, for 8 years and that trick didn't work. The cork was breaking up.

Soaking in hot(boiling) water is usually effective but eventually you have to replace them.

Punch the pin out as stated above.

You can fit a stack of O rings or a new cork from SOS or elsewhere

Great, thank all. So for now I will boil the water, if that fails I will soak in fuel mix, if that fails I will boil the full mix ( well, perhaps not!) .
So the little nipple type thing that I can see on the end of the fitting is where I can bash it out from then?

Sorry Peter, I have no further pearls of wisdom but one of the YouTube videos will surely sort you out.

Video was great . I have the cork and the 3mm drill and the sand paper. No vice but foot on drill may suffice. Worth a bit of time to get the job out of the way!

Thanks all , took my an hour to do it as per the video! Well worth it as the job is done and I know how to do it next time! Of course after its one year lay up it won't start so I feel another thread coming on !!
