What is that tiny yellow metal O ring called for sea strainer (directly behind main engine water seaccock). Photo would not upload.84AF0F6C-CBB1-4C3C-87F1-55C1A5CF29F6.jpg84AF0F6C-CBB1-4C3C-87F1-55C1A5CF29F6.jpg84AF0F6C-CBB1-4C3C-87F1-55C1A5CF29F6.jpg

Sorry, photo is so out of focus I cannot even see what you are talking about.
When you unscrew lid (to check strainer is not clogged) there is a big rubber seal… the bronze screw you unscrew always had this very insubstantial tiny yellow metal washer… this broke in half the other day - and so I need a new one I think… it seems water may be leaking from the strainer… where this washer was (a tiny rubber washer just squashes and breaks up when I tried using it). Maybe the washer is not necessary…

In a non-critical role like that I don't think composition is very important. Brass washers are usually 70/30, so not very susceptible to dezincification but as VicS points out silicon bronze or even copper would be as good
Presumably that must be a water tight joint.
Would a soft copper washer be better
or a Dowty washer
or should there be an O ring in a recess plus the brass or bronze washer .........??

The last washer was not Dowty. Those silicone bronze look good. Not sure if it was ever water tight (in my ownership;) - a bit of seepage seems normal but water tight would be nice. I found a washer that seemed to have the same corrosive colour as the main housing so gave that a try. Found a small fish in the strainer today!
