My sea start membership is due for renewal.

Premier Marinas offer breakdown assistance with in their annual Berthing contract.

Does any one know if the free breakdown assistance is as good as Sea start ?

Is there any benefit in Premier Berth holders paying extra for sea start cover ?

I guess it's like most service - depends what you get, and where you normally cruise. Afterall nothings for free these days.

I have been a Sea Start customer for a few years now and, like the rest of their customers, I am very pleased whenever I have had to call them out (only twice, but worth every penny). However, our cruising area is South & South West, Channel Islands and France which is perfect for SS coverage.

I would call them and ask what the difference is.

Cheers P

I sail with a skipper who uses seastart. He has only ever called them out once to help with an engine but he too had been really pleased with the service. We sail on the Solent and south coast.

SS have a boat in Chichester Premier marina .... we had a boat whose engine had no power and anchor was dragging, in tow waiting for it ....

I have used Sea Start for years and have had to use them on several occasions. It depends on who you get, but I must say i would not want to be out there without them!!

I have used Seastart once, although I have used Warren who runs the Seastart vessel in Chi Marina as a private contractor a couple of times and found him to be a thoroughly good chap. The one occasion I did call on him as Seastart was the first time out after my Sunseeker Portofino had been delivered and the batteries were flat. Effectively, by getting the boat started, it saved a wasted day which, to me, justified the annual subscription.

I do continue to find the yellow card in my wallet a reassurance.

We have used Seastart on 2 occasions, once when we got a net around the prop, they sent a diver within the hour and the second time when i changed a blocked primary filter (on the berth) and couldn't bleed the system. As this wasn't an emergency we agreed to wait a couple of hours.

I would check Premier's level of cover and location of thier mechanics, but for me its Seastart every time.

Whatever you do, avoid Marine Support Services(MSS), who left me stranded off Brighton with a sheared water pump for 5 hours with the excuse they had nobody available to either resue me or meet me at the marina so recommended the Coastguard. Eventually a kind berth holder in Brighton took pity on the pathetic radio conversations and took me into the marina.
Would you believe I was selling the boat that day and had a prospective (not) buyer on board.
Marine Support just apologised and offered me a refund of what I'd paid in membership that year!!! Pathetic.

I may be wrong but the Premier insurance isn't a sea start equivelant its an insurance that covers you for expenses in the event of breakdown. Unless its changed this year it doesn't offer recovery etc.

I best read it.

I was in the hope someone would have already read it and could post a one line summary.
