I guy I know has asked my opinion on this boat.

2002 SEA RAY 240 SUNDANCER 190 HRS?

I quite like Sea Ray boats and had a similar boat once and enjoyed it.

Can anyone help me with some advice as I'm out of touch with these now - he wants to keep it on the non tidal Thames in a marina.

Whats the price like? and has anyone experience of this outfit?

Appreciate some guidance please.

Many thanks

That looks a tidy boat. The only thing I'd be wary of is I understand a number of these were hurricane-damaged and subsequently repaired.

Problem is, there's no way of discovering this information until such time as you've made the purchase! Even then, assuming the repair is up to standard it should still be a tidy boat.

I understand this to be quite an issue, will be for a few years. Many of these UK importers don't even see the boats themselves until they land in the UK, then whatever they think of them they have to retail them to get their money back... also I would say planing hull & outdrive will be a bit of a pig at 5mph.... it will wonder for england. However un-cool better getting river boat if using on a river..... something semi displacement....but all just an opinion ...

but looks a tidy boat from the pics.... so who knows!!

Thats interesting as i too thought it was tidy - so much so wondered if the pix were from Sea Ray....

Very low hours might support the hurricane idea - know which particular year the damage occured?

Not sure about the year being terribly relevant. As jroberts says, this may be an issue for several years anyway, so for all we know it could have been 'Katrina' wot did any damage - had any damage been done, as it were.

As said, the only way to discover if any repairs had been undertaken would be to have the boat undergo a detailed survey.

As previously stated, 5 kts on a planing hull with a big engine and driven by a leg.
You'll never get it to go in a straigt line.
By a Viking 23 instead - might not look as cool but much more usable, and cheaper to run service etc

I know this guy - and he's a member of these forums

Mark T O'Carroll is an approachable and friendly chap. He has appeared on these forums specifically to debate imports. You can phone him directly and he will answer all your questions, not just about damage, but CE regs etc. I doubt its damaged goods, he has a long reputation to consider. More likely the economy. People are offloading shed loads of boats in the US right now, hence the price.

Personally I wouldn't touch a US import. Aside from the fact you won't know if it's been hurricane damaged the electrics are usually converted using a dirty great transformer in the engine bay. This means that if anything electrical packs up you'll have to source a 110v version from the States.
I wanted to buy a 240 Sundancer before I saw a 260. The 260s are not much more money but you get an electric windlass and vinyl headlining rather than stinky carpet stuck to the GRP. Not that either boat is really suitable for river use.
