We are in the middle of (hopefully) starting the process of bringing the ONLY MASB / HSL LEFT in UK Waters to "LIFE" again
we have found one Sea-Lion with gearbox but we really need 3 plus an appropriate V-Drive for the CENTRE engine

"One of our Number" found the Boat which has a suitably checkered history :
but suffice to say that during the war its was laid down as a Motor Anti Submarine Boat (MASB)
but later in life was re-purposed as High Speed Launch (HSL) for Air Sea Rescue duties

this is what we hope to restore her to :: an HSL
in tribute to the "Lads" who ran them without very much protection from the "elements" or the Luftwaffe

anybody who sees one, hears of one, hears a rumour of one ..........!! please let me know
either here or
horscroftpeter9@gmail.com

I've been following the facebook page.

I had 2 small British Powerboat race boats, I searched for years for a Lion with no luck.

The big challenge with the MASB in question is the fundraising. That'll be a lot harder than the boat rebuild.

I am part of the effort to raise HMS Bronington the last of the "Ton" class Minesweepers
so I'm aware of the difficulties in regard to Funding -

are you a volunteer then (smile)

I emailed Steve Hale privately to give him what I know about a)funding b)setting up a trust to run the whole show :
also I'm to give him contacts to help him when I've got their permission

email addy above

Stay Safe and Thank You
(Found 1 Sea-Lion and a V-Drive - thats the Centre Engine taken care of!! - on the track of the bits to make up the rest!!)

By coincidence I was working close to Bronington a few weeks ago, sorry state.
Does she sill have Deltics in? They'll be scrap now. Hampshire County Council Museum service have a Deltic and a Issotta Fraschine W18!

Both could be quite straightforward jobs with £10m each.

yes she does :
I have discovered 2 pairs both ex-Ton class (not at liberty to say "where" unfortunately) :
there are another pair in HMAS Curlew in OZ
But I thank you for your knowledge of the one in Hampshire - that gets a phone call tomorrow

the Hampshire County Council referred me to the "Hampshire Cultural Trust" who run their Museum's for them
they have come back and said, as they do - "no trace of it found"
did you physically see it and which Museum was it in, please??

did you use the search facility and see this old thread scroll down and you will read there was one in Scotland??Napier Sea Lion engine.

British Military Powerboat Trust. They restored HSL102 and MGB81 and had a small museum at Marchwood. I recall the Isotta and the Deltic being there on display on loan from Hampshire, its at least 15 years ago. The trust kind of folded and was consumed by Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust I think.

taken that all in, thank you
I'm learning a lot(smile)
yes I know about the one in Scotland /(pic below!)
and yes I know about the MERGER although the BMPTeam (instead of Trust) are still going
I have an enquiry in toT.1977.134 Napier Sea Lion.jpg them regarding the Deltic

I have responded above about the sealions but I have a question -are you proposing that if you can find the engines and g boxes they should be re installed to power the craft?????

Yes!!!! - and I am well aware that a) they will "gulp" fuel at an an alarming rate
b) we have to be careful not to shake the old girl to bits
that is why my private plan is to run her on the centre engine as a normal thing
and only bring the "wings" in, "if we need to" or for Full Power "bursts"
does that sound reasonable to you??
Have you been in touch with Phil Clabburn who was very involved with and worked on HSL102 and MGB81?
no I haven't - do you have an email for him, please?
(I notice as a sideline the distinctive sail shape of your profile pic - I have 3 of these, all wooden : 635, 1067 and 1614 : all Merlin's - see year book_
