Hello,

I have a Sea-fire FD550M Maual/auto system installed on a 2013 Pearl 50 in Menton, South of France. It sometimes shows the discharge light but has not actually discharged. There is also a fireflap fitted to the ventilation system that sometimes does not open and does not allow the engines to start. It is quite a complicated system. I am a great believer in "Keep it simple, stupid" and would like to consider converting it to a basic system. Does anybody have experience of this equipment, please?

These systems are very common having been fitted to all the major UK manufacturer's boats.

I can understand your nervousness but I suspect your issue is probably related to a poor connection somewhere in the system. Have you tried re-making the connections to the screw terminals on the SeaFire box? I'd also investigate the connection close to the extinguisher to make sure the connectors are in good condition. Don't forget to check all all of your fire extinguishers including bow thruster, etc.

There is a plug where the two wires go into the extinguisher. Disconnect this and bridge the wires together with a short bit of wire . It should then indicate that it is not discharged, If it's still saying discharged then try the screw terminals as Pete explains.

I have had experience of one going off in anger. I would never be without one again because it worked brilliantly.
