Fireball has just drawn my attention to a nice post from Magli (who is the friendly new Cherbourg Marina Manager) which Magli posted on the Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Cruise 2011 Forum under members events.

Anyone that attended in 2011 or might be interested in 2012 may want to read the post and my reply.

Regards
Roger

Magli has replied on the Scuttbutt Cruise 2011 forum that neap tides are on 7/8/9 Sept 12 or 23/24/25 Sept. 7/8/9 tides are weakest.

I know its 11 months away but if anyone is interested please post your views.

Once date is know Magli is also looking at possible restaurant options. I like Cafe de Paris for Friday night and this year we took along an unattached stray scuttlebutt member. We could possibly do some small group booking for Friday night?

At present still of the view that the YC is best for the 50-70 Saturday evening dinner. Remember if it blows gales number could be zero! Restaurants often want deposits to protect against loss of business. We have tried a restaurant before that was recommended but while their a la carte was excellent their mass catering was not very good and I thought their service level was favouring the a la carte dinners in the front room!

In addition Magi is looking for afternoon sheltered accommodation for the afternoon pontoon/boat gathering in case it rains.

Roger, there is something wrong with the later dates you quote for 2012. Soton show is from 14th to the 23rd Sept 2012.

So, the later dates for the trip would have to be 21st to the 23rd Sept, not 23/24/25. ;)

Barring any unforseen circumstances those dates are now in the diary and consider us booked in!!

My preference would be earlier, more daylight may encourage a few more smaller boat owners, but whatever date it is I hope to be there.

7/8/9 for preference...but

+1(boat) n+2 crew so far!
Looks like we can fit it round the SBS dates this year

Ah, just signed up for the 2012 St Wilfred's Hospice Challenge this lunchtime- so 22/09/2011 out the window!
So 1 more vote for 7/8/9 September. Then SBS the next weekend.

I would be up for the 7/8/9/sept 2012, you can never predict the weather and as it happened the weather was Ok for this year but I didnt go because the weekend was at the end of september and there was the risk of being storm bound and in fact the early part of september was pretty poor weather but statistically there must be more chance of good weather earlier in september. It will always clash with something like the boat show for some folks but if you have kids of a certain age, late sept is back to uni season!

Begining to feel that 7th Sept weekend will be prefered by those that have taxi journeys to Uni plus those that have to work during the boat show.

Any other comments/

This years trip was touch and go for me, not just because of a knackered knee, but because of the club lift out. We sailed back on the 25th and lift out was on 29th. Because we are restricted by tide we have a very tight schedule to work by. Had I missed it I would have had to go into a marina or a boatyard for the winter. However, I do realise this problem is probably unique to me.

It would be great if there is no conflict with Boat Show dates. Either before or after.

I might actually be able to come then.
