Hi all,
We have a broken engine sea cock on our Beneteau 32s5, wing keel 1.35 draught. We are acturally in Port Solent. We need to dry out alongside and might as well anti-foul and all the rest of it at the same time. She dries out fine - just sits on the keel. Can anyone recommend suitable drying grids, posts etc. in Portsmouth Harbour - I have seen them at Portchester, but believe those are for members only - or can they be hired. I don't want to motor too far, because we are going to have to do a temporary rig on the engine water intake - hang it over the side, or put water in a container - something like that.
Can anyone tell me where we can dry out. Thanks

never fancied hardway posts and what's on the bottom. The only other set i know of in Portsmouth harbour is between royal clarence marina and the CSSC marina.

I think you may need to have a word with CSSC the bottom looks okay at low water and is solid but on a slight slope. I've never seen any boat have any mishaps here.

Other than that get Chris from GBY to lift you out and hold you in a sling on a Saturday morning for a few hours.

I second Wicor to dry out and GBY to be lifted .... but I guess Port Solent can lift.

Oi, Aidy, you on commission? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I know I recommended chris to someone else last night /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif No commision just a satisfied customer of X years. (it's the RNLI xmas card from GBY each year that does it) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Recommend Wicor Marine, easy to sail to from where you are they are a working boat yard, so if it all goes t-up they should be able to assist.
See my response to your 'can I fix it in the water post.'
Although having gone aground on the mud outside Port Solent, if you do it shortly after the tide has turned, you will have nearly seven hours to replace the seacock /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, the mud is ever so soft.
It will have cost you nothing, and you may even get some people buying you beers afterwards hoping to hear how you ended up on the mud.

ok I am biased as a member of Hardway sc but even before I joined we had used their drying grids - friendly club - visitors very welcome - good facilities including pressure washer - showers bar etc and very modest price even to none members to dry out - range of ( I think ) 4 or more drying pads - some on concrete some on timbers - good luck

ps you should be able to sail to almost on them as well

At Hardway, you want to use the ones on the North side of the pontoon, either side of the piles is smooth concrete. South is a tad (make that very) muddy. From memory, £10 a tide for non-members, plus the pressure wash if you need it. At weekends, you'll need to book.

Electrickery close by, but I can't remember whether you need 13 amp or blue plug,

Thank you everone, for your advice. I have now booked in to Wicormarine and will do the work there.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks for the thanks /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif (never heard from the last guy WE helped re haul out in Portsmouth /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif)

Just out of interest can any of the Hardway guys confirm that the scrubbing piles are available for non-members? Didn't know that. Useful. Thanks ... in advance /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Zhivili,
I popped down to Wicormarine last night to check my dinghy was still there. I noticed that the pier adjacent to the drying berth has taken a bit of a knock. (There's an old lighter stuck underneath which may be the cause!) The drying berth looks undamaged but you might want to give Scott a call to check.

yes none members welcomed - we have dried out there a number of times before becoming members last season - correction to other comment on this the book to book a drying slot is in HSC clubhouse not the chandlers - great pressure wash facilites with token from clubhouse to run it and choice of several grids (4 I think ) but ones nearest club house need more tide
