There I was this afternoon, burbling up the river in my soapdish at a wake friendly speed, Greenday blasting from the speakers, American Iron burbling away in the engine bay, sunspecs on and feeling like the bad boy of the river.

Then a boat similar to the one pictured overtook, wash flying up the banks, bad old grandad of a skipper fixing me with a defiant eye as he went. Must have been going 15 knots and left me coughing in the blue diesel fumes he left behind.

Somehow the bad boy feeling disappeared after that episode and I crept back to my berth to try take it all in.

How would he have reacted if I re overtook him at 40 knots?

Should I have?

I would have dearly loved to and after a season of creeping about, full throttle would have cleaned her plugs and settled her piston rings in a bit too.

Bad Old Bugger :D

A Seamaster 27 doing 15 knots, how? Towed by a Chinook?

Take more water with it, dear boy! 15 knots my arse! If they do 15 knots I'll buy one, positively flying compared to my tub!

BTW, didn't know you were on the Ouse, I had a 26 foot steel boat with a hell of a sheer and a wooden top moored at Earith 5 years ago. It was called Wandelaar, had a 4.99 Perkins with a straight thro' exhaust that used to bark like a doberman, is it still around?

Erm isn't Earith on the 'Great Ouse' as opposed to the 'Ouse', the Great Ouse being in Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire etc. and the Ouse being in Yorkshire!
Of course me being a Lancastrian, probably means I know nowt about it :D

Smart Arse! You're right tho', I just assumed it was an East Coast story, didn't realise it was from one of they "furrin" parts I never got to but heard of in History at school 45 odd years ago. Yup, I was moored at Earith on the Great Ouse as opposed to those other insignificant little 'uns where furriners go ditch crawlin' in mud soup and wear funny hats.

Funny hats, well that is a personal choice, but I would not call ANY of my hats funny. My daughters do though! And as for ditch crawling, only on a friends 'bathtub' 'cos his wife will usually feed me as well !!:p In fact now I think on it I know any pair of Mugs who will take me ditch crawling and then feed me!
The joys of being single:D

I said it was SIMILAR to the one in the pic. Looked like something from the 1950s. I do know from the blue smoke coming from either end of the transom that it appeared to have twin engines.

Not up on these old pipe smokers boats, just the general style.

It just goes to show what great self control you have Tinkicker.........

Besides the wash you would have created at WOT may not have been that devastating anyway, which probably might not have satisfied the need for revenge;)

Not that you would be thinking that way, of course!

BTW, great choice in music.

Glad you didn't open her up for maximum wash effect. My daughter has a house a couple of doors along from the Riverview Hotel and she would be drying out the carpets

What pontoon are you on at york marina ,im on F, moon river

I'm in the cheap seats on D, Moondancer. Smallest boat in the marina, except for the tenders :D

Naw the entire incident amused me greatly. Earlier this season I committed to a dumb manouvre and had to open the taps briefly to extricate myself from a rapidly deteriating situation. Really stupid mistake and much mental recrimination afterwards.
Still I learned a lesson from it. The wash from my boat on the plane appears to be far less than in displacement mode. Dropping back off was a different matter.

This guy though cruised serenely on at speed. He looked just like one of old guys in this type of boat that when plugging upriver and they are passing downstream, would wave a pipe stem at you because a bit of wake was cresting, despite the GPS showing 6 knots.

Wasn't upset in the slightest at him and I forgive others their tresspasses far easier than I forgive my own. It was the irony of it :D:D
