The following seems to have emerged as a serious proposition:

Bar: The Woodside

Location: Doune
(the one between Stirling and Callander)

Date: Saturday 19 February

Not a boaty place, unless you fancy canoeing down the Teith. B&B accommodation in the village.

Incidentally, fans of Ian Banks' Whit may be interested to know that much of the book is set just near there.

Who's up for it?

Errr, I would be but that night is out. Sorry. If you're gonna be all jet-lagged 'n'at, maybe you should suggest another date, since it's your plan?

I propose the following Saturday in the Tigh an Truish, Seil Island. It's a real hassle for everyone to get to except me but you could all sail up and anchor in Puilladobhran that evening. Michael Fish has promised me there won't be a hurricane.

OOOEeeerrr is right enough!

Wasn't it you who first mentioned the 19th... and while I'm on the subject, were you not also the first to mention Doune?

I could manage both the 19th and the 26th and while I would prefer Glesca, Embra or Obaan I wouldn't want to miss the fun if Doune was the chosen venue.

Either date is ok with me at the moment. How does one get to Doune by public transport from Aberdeen? Train to Stirling? Then what?

Would need B&B as well.

I'll go along with the majority - unless SWMBO tells me different /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes to all - the penalty paid of married men making unconsulted arrangements!
I will be working on the boat so threw Doune in as I drive through there and it seemed nearer for the Aiberdonians - being entirely selfish - but then again strategic...whit aboot a working weekend at Kilmelford, 6 or 8 of us should see my winter jobs off nicely - an I'll bring 2 or 3 bottles of beer.

Do we need to check the ferry timetable, what with Puilladobhran being in the Western Isles?!!

Re: Scottish Swallie - whenever

I'll go along with whatever peeps want. Sorry, but no chance to read all today's threads - in big hurry.

I'm happy with whatever dates/locations people prefer. I'm back on AM of 19/2 so Doune would be OK - if it's still on, but I'll check.

If there's a change in plan, please let folk also know at the Virtuous Pub.

Regards to all, and looking forward to meeting up sometime!

Re: Scottish Swallie - whenever

Since the balance of opinion seems to be against the 19th, I've decided to devote this weekend to Silkie's "ambitious refurbishment programme". (Translation: the start of the season seems very close and I'm starting to panic about the number of bits I've dismantled).

It goes without saying, therefore, that I'll be grateful for any distraction if anyone is passing Dunstaffnage. I'll likely either be aboard or propping up the bar in the Frog until Monday or Tuesday, or PM me (by Friday afternoon) for my mobile no.

Dave

PS - Still available for the 26th.
