We've a vague idea of extending this summers Scottish trip to include a crossing to the Faroes. There are reportedly strong currents near the islands so a good Pilot book would be useful.
We can buy a Navionics card for the trip but any other tips gratefully received
Thanks in advance
Mike

The really strong tidal currents are between the islands. You'll be able to buy a copy of the Streymkort (tidal atlas) in Torshavn. Willie Kerr's Faroe, Iceland, Greenland is useful, but in my ancient edition, Faroe only merits about 20 pages!

It's a fantastic place to sail and visit. Spectacular scenery. Don't miss out on the beers (a good dark lager called Black Sheep is a favourite of mine). Be prepared for debate about whaling - it divides the local community, as well as outsiders (some of whom might want to dissuade you from visiting).

Having sailed to the Faroes this week the RÁK app seems to be fairly accurate. The Admiralty Sailing Directions NP52 has tide stream diagrams. The red book is difficult to interpret as the flow diagram is based on Mer Pass of the moon.
