Dear fellow forumites,
in another life I am a member of the Alpine Club and I am forwarding a request received from a couple of its members who want to do the SIPR this May. If there's anyone with a boat and a little in Scotland, it sounds like great fun! If you're interested, drop me a PM and I'll then put you in touch directly with them. Here is their message:

"Fellow AC member, Richard Ive and I have long wanted to participate in the SIPR race. Starting in Oban, a team of fell runners and sailors make their way to Salen on Mull, run over Ben More, sail to Craighouse on Jura, run the Paps, sail to Arran, run Goat Fell, then finally sail into Troon.
However, we're short of two things: (1) sailors and (2) a yacht (40ft).

Would anyone in the AC be interested in helping us solve this problem?
Richard is qualified as an RYA senior instructor and RYA coastal skipper and I also have some sailing experience but would do the running. The race starts on 18th May and takes several days. All the details are here https://www.scottishislandspeaksrace.com/.

Victory can't be assured, but exhilaration, exhaustion and celebratory whisky can.

Best wishes,
Richard and Clare"

The SIPR website runs a dating page that introduces boatless runners to runnerless skippers. My runners assure me that the sailing is the more arduous part - they seem to manage to sleep through most of the sailing legs - while us sailors are convinced the runners are super-human running machines.
Why not have all female runners? Ours would like some competition for the "Molls of Kintyre" award.

Edit: Oops, I see you have already posted on the SIPR "Matches" page. Good luck!

That sounds like a gruelling challenge.
I would much prefer the sailing bits. Can't help with a boat though as I'm not local.
Good luck.

May be able to help with this. Having completed a number of times in various boats I was contemplating an entry this year. 42' based in Troon.

Done that a couple of times, including one which involved passage from Dover-Oban and Troon-Holyhead afterwards. Why Holyhead? The mast fell off some distance SW of there and the trimaran's new owner decided to motor back that way, due to rail links home.

Very interesting - to some, challenging - tidal gates e.g. Sound of Luing in the dark, MoK in adverse breeze-over-tide, and violent katabatic winds at Lamlash.
