Forecast here on the Clyde tonight Storm 10 with violent storm 11 forecast further up the coast!! Just away to check all my chock wedges are hammered in tight before the full force hits!!
Cameron....Fingers crossed for you...... Marina at Troon does not allow yachts ashore to keep mast's up when chocked off unless in a specific type of metal craddle.
Ta for the heads-up.
I'll be heading over to your bit to check a friend's boat... he's left his cockpit tent and sprayhood up and it tends to flap about a bit.
Better to have it down than decorating the cruising club fence.
mmm - just looked at the Met office forecats for Hunterston by Largs. Not seen a forecust with gusts of "101mph" very often for this area.
speed gust
0000 WSW 52 mph 86 mph
0300 W 52 mph 101 mph
0600 W 36 mph 77 mph
0900 WSW 32 mph 77 mph
1200 W 31 mph 83 mph
1500 W 22 mph 55 mph
That could test things a bit
Tried phoning the crane at Hunterston for curent wind speed, but number engaged ? All boat owners trying the same thing, or the wind speed guage just blown off ?
PS Just retried a fifth time and gotten through - 39mph average, max 47 mph over last ten mins
Hi Paul
I thought you were going to miss this and we were going to get it tonight but must have read it wrong
Hope them dodgy warps hold OK and your wedges keep still
Terry
My standing rigging is only 4 years old and she is sitting on her road trailer on blocks so should be secure enough.
Threw a sicky as I have really been suffering from man flu today so got home here to Toward Point so I could really enjoy the storm. Midnight now and really starting to howl.
Should last well into tomorrow so I can get nice and cosy up in my study looking over towards Rothesay bay with a nice frothy cappaccino, some mincemeat pies and some industrial strength Lemsip and watch the water.
Well, that's more than a few tiles off the roof, what a noise! I just had a look at the UK Wind Map site and it's gusting 105mph at Malin Head...........
Do me a favour, when you go to Troon could you please have a look and see if there's any damage to mine? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Hi Terry,
Survived a very noisy night....lost a side gate but gained a bludy great trampoline!!!! will check out your "Angel" after my morning shift. Still gusting 65kts at Tiree at the moment.
I think we're due for a bit of a blow darn saaf on Thursday. A friend is doing his dazed kipper course this week. I know yesterday they had great fun tacking up Southampton water in an 8 (on a Bav 36!), but with a 9 - 10 forecast for tomorrow, it might be time to do some knot work!
