My son and I have a fairly newly aquired SCOD which currently has no gas installed. As we want to cruise I would like to install gas for cooking and heating in a way that conforms to current guidelines.

Anyone out there with experience of gas bottle storage on this type of boat? I am thinking of mounting a bottle holder on the after-deck vented to the fresh air with a through-the-deck union bringing the the gas into the boat.

Any suggestions?

Just a thought, but do you really need gas? I would suggets paraffin as an alternative for both heating and cooking but without the inherant risk of gas.

Try the SCOD owners' association (www.scod.org). They should be able to tell you where gas bottles are usually fitted on SCODs. There's a large fleet of SCODs in the Solent, so there's a great pool of knowledge available.

SCOD... lucky you. I hope you have a lovely time sailing it. I've always thought my boat (Nich 26) was a take on a SCOD! By the way I think if there's no gas now is a bad time to introduce it... why not go the Origo or Taylor's route?
