Hoping to go to Scillies with Sailing club jaunt, looking for second opinions and how to comments please.
Been to Scillies before and have pilot books and scillypetes super book but thinking of a different way.
Start Falmouth would like to take My Avon RIB with 15 hp , thinking leave boat as mothership and use rib to explore, thinking of towing alongside, RIB is heavy no way on board, so should I leave RIB in Falmouth( vulnerable) or take to Scillies
Anchors. Never left boat alone on anchor before, happy with tackle,
Bower Delta shoot loads of 10 mm chain.
Stern either Danforth or CQR big mother with loads of 10 mm,
what's best trust 1 swinging or 2 belt and braces fore and aft ,
Anchoring doesn't worry me just leaving boat unattended ,
at moment crew is me but have 2 peeps interested but I'm the only competent one .
Just an aside any one interested in a 1week jolly to Scillies starting in 1 weeks time
Happies
Keith

Ugh is my frank answer. If you really can't get the deflated RIB on board as deck cargo (and are you sure you can't?) then at least lift the outboard onto the 'mother ship' (36' Sigma? Should easily be big enough), and tow the RIB astern on a fairly long painter. If the weather is no more than about F5 it should be ok but will be an added source of worry and slow you down quite a bit while being towed. No way would I aim to tow along-side as there's always a swell between Land's end and a few miles from Scilly.

Many anchorages have considerable tidal flow through them, so lying to two anchors can be a pain. I always lie to just the bower. Holding is mostly pretty good, so don't worry about leaving the boat alone for a few hours. I like St Helen's pool, where I think you could leave the boat unattended for a month with no worry!, and the N side of St Martin's (provided the wind not from the N obviously).

Take the rib to Penzance and get it sent over on the freighter (arrange that early so they know its coming) then just sail over and collect it when you are here, same in reverse to get it back to the other side.

If there were more of you and in fairly settled conditions just get crew to motor the rib to Scilly but expect a hefty fuel bill.

Just use your bower anchor not much need for using a kedge unless you are drying out. The holding in most popular anchorages is good and if you are happy to sleep onboard why not be happy to go for a wander ashore.

Thanks Scillypete
Have often thought the same think its a bit like leaving a child in playground unattended, happy whilst asleep in their bedroom, but.
Rib idea was just me being lazy, likely crew are not sailors more spectators, just thought I could dodge tyranny of pilotage, seems I can't . Rib on freighter is good idea for future ,thanks
