Sceptre 1958 America\'s Cup Challenger

We believe Sceptre to be the only America's Cup yacht to be owned by Brit's and sailing in UK waters. Is anyone aware of any other America's Cup yachts in the UK.

Check out the history of Evaine, amazing stories and logs,a mate of mine did an engineless double transatlantic in her........
and by the way I remember crawling all over Scepti- as a kid when she was laid up at Berthons in the very early 70s. Lovely shape from below.

Last I heard Roy Hart had Victory '82 down in Essex. He did take it in a Triangle race - when the fleet debated whether she held more water than Plymouth Sound. Not sure whether Victory made it through to challenge. There was also a 12 out of he water at Fox's on the Orwell - but she too was an unsuccesful challenger. OF

There are a couple out of the water at Port Solent ..... French boats I think. They used to sail them up and down at SIBS and charge people for trips!

It is nice to see Sceptre is not forgotten! My late father, then Lt Cmdr Derek Woods ran the support services for the challenge, so we got to know quite few of the crew and I still have some memorabilia as well. A nice Beken photo of her and Evaine racing (with Evaine in lead!). As I recall Evaine was rescued from a mud berth in Cowes and rebuilt by Owen Aisher as the only sparing boat.

I went to see my father off from Southampton as Sceptre was loaded onto a freighter for the States and he went with her. He was quite shocked that the Merchant navy seemed to be able to outdrink the Navy!
