Saving Song as Ringtone - iPhone

Somebody asked how to do this a short time ago, but I cant find the thread. I thought it was in the thread where the question was regarding upgrading to a smartphone from an old phone?

Anyway, hopefully, here is as good as any to post a video with a workaround for it - presumably anything you can load into Garage Band can be manipulated and saved as a ringtone etc..

It's certainly practical advice but is it a sailing shanty that you're setting as a ringtone?

That's brilliant Richard, thank you.

Between us we have 24 ringtones ALL from our own music and I made them simply by going into iTunes, selecting the start and finish times, opening the file, converting it from m4a to m4r* and saving it.

It went into a specific ringtone folder in iTunes and as each device was plugged into the Mac you could then download it if required.

Lost that capability now that iTunes is Music so very happy for my kids that I can still do it.

*occasionally I seem to remember having to convert to AAC but that was just a button push
