It's outrageous!

The Radio 4 "UK Theme" at 5.30am our normal start to the day and our countdown for the shipping forecast is to be killed off!


The BBC UK theme played on Radio 4 is to be scrapped. It's been good enough for the past 33 years, but if you tune in, as we all sometimes do, at half past five in the morning you will hear instead what's been described as a 'pacy news briefing' .



Please help save it, please sign the petition....

Dearie me, we have had 2 threads on this already, but its still a worthy cause.

It is a clever reworking/intermingling of some folk tunes, quite nice the first 4 times you hear it... but does it need to be played 5 times a week, every week.

Surely the BBC can provide an mp3 of it, allowing those who love it to listen to it any time they want to and everyone else can move on. Problem solved.
 
Agree. After a couple of days reflection I've signed the petition, made a complaint to the BBC, sent an email to paxman and sent a message to my MP

MCA and Met Office should be persuaded to support this also on the basis that it's been a recognised first weather forecast alarm for over 30 years.

I don't see how the BBC can establish a wide-area broadcast routine for over 30 years and subsequently dismantle it without any consultation and with only 3 months notice.

I'd like to see the risk analysis prepared by this bright new controller!

Where's the RYA when we need them?
 
This is our trouble we are about as patriotic as a bunch of lemmings. Have you not been in a French or any Mediterranean harbour and see how they support their local customs and heritage. Go to St Marlo on 'Bastille day' and join in the fun, but don't wave the union jack.
 
Oh I so totally agree!! It's a completely AWFUL load of rubbish and I can't WAIT to see it go!!!

It never made the Top Ten ,but is a recognizable lead in to the weather.
When I go sailing and find the early shipping forecast quite useful,the farming bit reflective in a here-I-am-on-the-sea-looking-at-the-land sort of way...
If I wanted 24 hour b-oody news I would have a Sky dish strapped to my head!
Most 'news' is dead anyway by the end of the week.
The Sunday Papers once a week do quite nicely,thank you Mr Radio4LookWhatICanTinkerWithNewbie,Sir.
 
Oh, it's got nothing to do with whether it's replaced with news or a cookery programme!! I just can't stand the damned concoction and wish it a speedy, but painless, end.

Tomorrow would be great!!
 
Strikes me as a typical move by Bliars Broadcast Corporation. We know how much they hate Britain, do they have to make it quite so bloody obvious.
 
As an ocean going sailor the BBC4 morning theme is invaluable to me ... it precedes the weather report, it signals the start of a new day, it is an alarm clock for the next watch, it is a bit of Britain in foreign waters, it is solace for the soul at sea. Hey, if it ain't broke so don't fix it!

BTW, don't bother with those commercial petition sites, just email the BBC Controller directly, with a "cc" to your MP.
