I am a 1934 Mevagissey Tosher and my present owners (only my age) are too decrepit to enjoy me. Everyone who thinks about buying me says that wooden boats are too much like hard work. Surely there are still mad people out there who long to spend all their spare time with me? My present owners would give me away to a good home. Do I really have to be broken up? tel 01453 751671

I hope you find a good home, with people who will love and cherish you. People who go into wooden boat ownership with their eyes open, who know the work that it entails. People who are content to spend more of their "boat time" in mending and painting and caulking, than actually going anywhere. I'm not a raggie, I suppose you could call me a "classic stinkie", but I love to see old wooden boats of all descriptions loved, looked after and used.

Good Luck,

Bill.

Ask your present keepers, to post this on the for sale forum aswell, you might see more response there.

You're not the one featured on the front cover of this month's Classic Boat, are you?

It would be a great shame if the boat was lost, there is bound to be someone out there willing to take her on.
What is wrong with her exactly ?
Is she 'Gaff' ( I like's Gaff's I do)

Rule 1. Everything can be repaired, rebuilt, replaced, except the soul! it's what makes her 'live'
We all know that anyone who takes on an old wooden boat has to be prepared for a long job, it becomes a way of life ( ask my wife !)
The satisfaction though of seeing everything come back to usefull working life is worth every moment .
I wish I had the time myself ,( do I ?).
Our boat is 1939 and was built in Mevagissy at W Frasier & son( gone now) the rebuild has been a very long job , 2 years full time, and finnished this month ,but at the end we have retained a boat that has a real soul and is a joy to own. Now what do I do ?
Whenever I am doing a job I try to imagine how the original builder thought about it , it is probably fancifull but I like to think I am keeping his work and skills alive.
I recently spoke to the son of our boats builders, he's 80 odd now, lives in St Austell, almost the first thing he said to me was " I remember that boat , what a job we had to steam in those last six ribs at the stern , it was sort of nice to answer " yea! I know, me too, but they are all ok now !"
So I hope very much that you find a good owner for your boat, she will be worth the effort I am sure.
Good Luck

I would have gone to a good home years ago if my humans were not so sentimental. They are arthritic, diabetic, goodness knows what else. and OLD. Should take up TV watching but wont give in.

Can you keep us posted on your progress with this, CAJ, or anyone else who might be interested in her - I for one would like to know the outcome (in the hope that it's a happy ending!).

Thanks hugely,
