After a season in France I am fed up of getting legally mugged and want to know how to save some money.

If you have come up with some good tips then we are all ears and empty pockets.

Some of the things we got hit for were clothes washing in launderettes, meat, eating out, Marina and internet costs.

We are now walking around naked, eating apples we “scrumped” over a wall, trying not to go in marinas and using smoke signals instead of broad band but at 1 mega bit per year it’s slow and marks the decks. Good news is we have been banned from eating out as they don’t like naked diners for some reason and besides there is no where to keep your money.

Any money saving hints are welcome

France is a beautiful country which is unfortunately seriously spoilt by the French.

If the fire's too hot there on the pocket, get out and as advised get down to Spain/Portugal.

Other than that head East to Greece/Turkey . . . . . .A lot of the French nationals must think the same as you because the French yachts are by far the most abundant flagged boats we seen out in the eastern Aegean.

Have you an address we can send the food parcels to. . . . . . .

If you really want to go around in the nude in port, you need to head for Port Ambonne by Cap d'Agde. We came across it about 40 years ago when it wasn't shown on our chart and we were passing in a Westerly Centaur. It needs a shallow draft boat, but they all do their shopping and visits to the bank naked. Quite liberating really.

or just sail to Croatia where everyone seems to be starkers. We've got loads of photos of the boat with everyone in the background airing their appendages. It's difficult to get friends to focus on the foreground!

Biggest one is living on the hook.

Lots saved on marina fees plus the shops and bar are further away. Though apart from N Spanish rias, atlantic Europe isn't really very well endowed with ancharages, or rather they are are full of marinas now

That and stop drinking but lets not get too carried away :D :D

Bit of a stickler for security on deck - decent footwear when underway etc, and NEVER barefoot / dangly bits when working the windlass.

Most Med boats used to have a sticker showing a no entry sign with shoes on it. One I knew also had a sign with bikini pics instead of the shoes.

I haven't seen those recently and it seems that a lot more clothes are being worn on yachts in the Med now.

It must be Elf & Safety, but like most of their stuff rather boring.

On second thoughts maybe it is something to do with the environmentalist plague we are suffering now.

Once. when berthed in La Manga, there was a rather miserable French couple who had installed a full sized washing machine on the pontoon behind their boat.

After several lemonades a mate and I put a sign next to the machine 'Service Wash €2.00, knock on boat'

We then ran away, hid and watched the consequences.
