While enlarging an existing circular hole (unfortunately through a bulkhead) for trunking/additional wiring..bits and bats...I ended up with a very oblong shaped hole..
I have heard holes should be circular for strength but if I make it circular it would be much much larger...
dilemma...
Can I reinforce the wood surrounds ..and feel secure with my oblong hole? is oblong maybe no big deal as long as it's not square/rectangular ? As a % of the bulk head the hole does not seem particularly large (about 1 sausage)

If it's this big, then the bulkhead would be seriously weakened

Otherwise, if like one of these then not a problem

Seriously - it shouldn't be an issue. If in doubt then make sure the corners have as big a radius as you can manage.

Since we went metric under EU regulations you could be fined for measuring holes with sausages.Only millimetres are allowed unless of course the sausage is a bratwurst. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

on a serious note I wouldnt worry about it .
