Can't believe spotted out first time with me new burgee... that's the Solent for ya!, Well done Solitaire!

Anyone like a load of pics? OK, here goes!

After a frustrating few weekends not getting on the water at least grabbed a day yesterday.... but just visiting my folks in Mercury...

Left Hythe...saw as leaving Southampton Water and approaching the Hamble...rubbish picture, but anyone else know anything about it...seems to be full of people..

...not that interesting really... but enjoyed by all on board!!

great pics

after recent problems with trim tabs and leg, we managed to get out in the Solent ourselfs - good day for it too

Ref pic 1. Also passed this on Saturday. Can't remember the name though.

As you say, excellent weekend. Anchored off Osbourne Bay for lunch on Sunday. Why do ribs and small sports boats need to race through anchorages when I'm half way through a glass of wine and cooling my feet off the bathing platform? Grr!

Often wondered the same.... amazing how much wash is produced by a heavy sub 20ft sportsboat getting up on the plane through an anchorage! Last time struggled not spill our drinks! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I was there yesterday with a Level 2 group. I was pointing out to the guys that it was bad news to speed into such an area on ribs etc. and pointed a few out as they came charging in. Does my head in! It's what gives us powerboaters such a bad name. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Yep, same time we were last there. Plonker waterskiing around the boats. When he did a complete 360 around us I'd had enough and told him to bugger off. Aside from the spilt drinks etc, what was doubly annoying was I had caught two bass, much to the kids delight, before they turned up carving their way through the exact place I'd caught them /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Nice pics, thanks Firefly. I reckon the blue hulled Atlantic 42 to yr port side in 2nd pic could be Observer's (?)

Bounty is beautiful. I dont know her history but there must be some - must look her up sometime. But what was the orange box boat all about?

I got some pics this weekend from a passing helicopter. They've given me thumbnails (see avatar) but want €€€ for the high res shots, so I'm trying to negotiate them down,

Meantime here is one of them taken by me. This shot is heading north ish, Pampelonne beach to port side, left turn into St Tropez 1mile ahead, Saturday evening. The blonde girl driving the copter was pretty amazing. And great at flying: she held the copter in this position for a minute or so, flying it kinda sideways and backwards, as I was going towards her at 25kts

...in a 1972 copy of Lloyds register that I looked in it states it was 63ft, built 1932 Camper Nicholson... and it did state owner but can recall.. wasn't anyone I had heard of.

you are the only person to comment about this! I thought it was hilarious, obviously home made, big box bolted to twin hulls with electric outboard... so yes, it was silent. couple on board both on garden chairs! Don't you just love British ingenuity!

Yes the orange box is no lash up. It's a lovingly constructed, er, thing. Rubbing strake perfectly fitted, teak capping rail, and so on. A labour of love. By someone who likes right angles :-)

[/ QUOTE ]If the one in the avatar is one of their best shots, I'd suggest them to care about the boat wake a bit more.
The pic shows a remarkable spray/backwash, surely due to hitting a wave (I'd be very surprised if your boat would always ride like that).
An argument also for the negotiation, maybe...? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You could try the line my mother used when a chap turned up with an aerial photo of her house. She said she wasn't really interested but she'd take it off his hands for half what he was asking.

As he started packing up to go she called after him: "Well, who else do you think you're going to sell it to?"

He took the point.

Re the ship steaming along in your first photo - as nobody else has offered an opinion, I will suggest that she is the Shieldhall - a genuine steamship, originally built to carry the sewage from Glasgow out to sea.
More about her at http://www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk/

And I have memories too of being anchored in Osborne Bay on a wee Snappie with speedboats and PWC all hurtling about in a frenzy - it happens here as well......

SWMBO was on board with me and I remember that she noticed that the vessel was Glasgow registered. As she was born and bred just outside Glasgow I will point out to her the original use of the vessel. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just hope they cleaned her out before selling her on. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
