Is there equipment on the market ,ie, satellite dish for connecting up ones pc for receiving, and sending email's, and if so ,is it as expensive as connecting to a cell phone, please advise,

Yes there are a number of satellite options but all of them are expensive - even more than using cellular.

I suggest you post a general query on the Liveaboard forum where you'll find a number of folks sending e-mails and accessing the web from all over the planet.

see www.iridium.com &/or www.inmarsat.com. Iridium seems to be commonly used offshore whil inmarsat claim to provide a lot of service to Journos in Afghanistan.

Forget about transmission via a satellite dish, I'm a satellite transmission engineer, its seriuosly expensive for this application and very difficult to set up, assuming you dont boil your eyeballs with microwave radiation etc..., The best bet that is closest is Inmarsat.
