Satallite TV

Last year I bought a used satallite TV system (Canal+) from a private individual in Holland and installed it whenever we had marina power during our summer on the canals of Holland. This year we went to Belgium and France and the receiver quit working while in France. Appairently France uses a different TV system from the rest of europe so I can't buy a receiver in France. Does any on know where I can buy the right receiver?

Can you not pickup the Dutch or Belgian transmitted programmes via satellite, whilst in France?

Thanks for that you learn something every day!
Ask Jeeves links are always a pain for doing that.

I am living in Germany and I am using a PAL System with two satellite receivers in line, analogue and digital. With a rotor I have access to several satellites. The two most important ones are Astra and Eutelsat/Hotbird. I have an 80cm-dish giving excellent reception. This should work in most of Europe. Turning the dish more westward I have access to a satellite providing french programs monochrome (black and white) only with the exception of TV5 which is coloured. Since You bought Your system in Holland You probably have a PAL-system with the same possibilities I have. So You just turn Your antenna a bit to the right and You'll find the french satellite. The receivers are cheap in Germany: the analogue one can be found for $25 here, the digital ones for about $150. This gives You a variety of about 250 free-tv-Programs, + lots of Radio-channels. The channels are listed in www.ses-astra.com and in www.eutelsat.com for the main 2.
