Off to Athens on Saturday. Any suggestions for "must see" or "must avoid" places in the Saronic Gulf? Also, any good suggestions for bolt holes in bad weather?
Thanks for any input!
Avoid Hydra as the last reggata of the season with 70 or more boats will make a problematic port even worse.Any of the islands offer many good refuge except Spetses but then you have the alternative of Porto Heli or Ermioni(Main harbour only).Have a nice sail and if you need more info just ask.
This is the Vernicos Blue Cup regatta, with dates for the ports they will be in - AVOID. Ermioni with 40 + boats will be interesting !! Last year they were holed up in Aegina due to bad weather.
Luckily we spent 2 days in Russian Bay - near Poros sheltering from the F8/9. Very thick Mud - lovely holding.
Sightly off topic - but our boat did not have any jackstays + only foam lifejackets.
Short summary of the 'must sees' and 'don't bothers' are listed on my website. But you'll be out of tourist season, so lots of places will be very quiet. Even Hydra may be acceptable! Poros (south quay and nearby anchorages) and Methana are both very well sheltered bolt holes.
