During the latter part of last month, the Mac family descended upon a small Sardinian Island to play boats with YBW forum friends Mr. and Mrs. MapisM, aboard their beautiful launch. We experienced fantastic hospitality from these excellent hosts, in fact the highlight of our European holiday.

As first time visitors to this Italian province we were indeed fortunate to have the advantage of local knowledge and getting to know this couples great group of friends was also a real pleasure during our stay.

Over the years MapisM has been taunting the forum with fantastic photography, both under and above the water of his Island paradise.
Unfortunately the following video does not come close to previous quality, as it was being used by first time amateurs, but an offering anyway.
The filming was done during a circumnavigation cruise of the Island, with a swim into some sensational sea caves.
You will see Captain M at the helm in a couple of shots, skilfully manoeuvring the boat amongst the rocks allowing the crew to swim in the caves as well as some beam sea footage of this stabilised, well founded sea boat, a total pleasure to be aboard.

Warning: footage edited and music added by a young person! May require audio reduction!

Excellent vid and v nice boat too. Bit perturbed to see you in wetsuits! Was the water that cold? Hopefully I'll be sampling a bit of Sardinian scenery myself as I'm moving my boat to N E Sardinia (wind permitting:eek:) in a few days time

Wow C, that brings back some very nice memories. And congrats to A, he did a very good job, also with the editing.
My first attempts with the GoPro were nowhere near this. Well, arguably, they aren't much better also nowadays.... :)
Btw, I actually liked also the soundtrack. Then again, I'm also young ...inside...

And many thanks for the kind words, also from our part it has been a great pleasure to have you onboard.
Actually, we learned by experience that with guests which are also boaters, it's much more likely to have a good time together, so that was not a surprise.
But you managed to exceed our most optimistic expectations anyway!
We are really looking forward to catching up again next winter in Tas.
European winter, that is!

@ Deleted User: the AndieMacs came here around mid of June, which is when the water just begins to get warmer.
We had 21/22 degrees in those days, but it's already 2 or 3 degrees warmer now, and by mid of Jul normally we reach 26 or so.
Though it seems that we'll have some mistral in the next days, which usually cools the water a bit.
Anyway, the good news for you is that around Sardinia usually it takes a wihle for the water to warm up at the beginning of the season, but it stays warm till late summer. Last year we measured 25 degrees at the end of Oct!

I do hope so otherwise I will be asking for my money back!

Don't worry Mike the water was actually really nice, my son and I borrowed the wetsuits from P and S more about potential protection (emotional support ;)) thinking about entering the sea caves for the first time, with a little lee-shore type conditions, with the skipper motoring around outside.
We didn't need them in any way, the swim inside was absolutely incredible, totally blew me away.

Sounds good. I'm hoping to overwinter my boat on the S side of Sardinia this year so maybe we'll get the chance to enjoy the swim ourselves later in the year!

Yes, seriously fond memories, and what a great team both S and yourself are around the boat. To be honest, we were greatly impressed by S's skills in every way onboard, you are very fortunate to have such a partner.

Andie was hoping for lots of underwater footage, but as you saw the camera was mounted/directed too high on his head, and most of it was just on or above the waterline. Anyway looking up inside the caves above water was a great view.

The footage doesn't really demonstrate how effective the stabilisers are, as you can see with the beam sea at around 3.50 minutes, and being the first time for me on a stabilised boat under three hundred feet, I was really impressed with the effect.

Looking forward to showing you both our little section of the world soon.

Will you be going to MM's marina or Cagliari?
We liked the village life of the smaller location and so close to great anchorages with options depending on the Mistral direction. The marina staff were really nice, as were other berth holders.

Look forward to reading up on your Sardinian experiences.

Looking forward to catching up again, show you that spot, and possibly swim inside the caves together.
With a glass of Carignano afterwards, of course!

Yep, with the GoPro on the head band it's actually easier to make a decent footage when diving with tanks, rather than snorkeling.
I will see if I can make some other clips, the next time I will go for a swim in that spot.
But in the meantime, now you will surely find more familiar this other video that I already posted last year...
...which in turn can also reconfirm to Deleted User that a wetsuit is normally useless! :D

No way!
More noise needed, in the day as a Greaser that would have been too quiet, not a bad clip though, fer hamatuers!:encouragement:
