Just wondering if anyone has views on a weeks charter in the North of Sardinia? a good idea? boat sorted just wondered about people's experiences? Should we go across to Corsica and spend the week there or stay on the north /NE coast. is it harbours/marinas or anchorages? interesting or not?

Any comments much appreciated...

Thanks

Richard

I've never spent much time in the area but did once sail between Sardinia and Corsica and spent a night in Puerto Cervo (sp?). The passage was beautiful and wild with snow-capped mountains (well, it was February) and bleak countryside leading down to intricate harbours and coves.

I keep meaning to charter there and have a proper look around. Very memorable place. I'll watch this thread with interest and maybe it'll be this year I get down there again.

The islands between Corsica and Sardinia are great cruising for a small boat - some of the anchorages though are within a national park and you will have to pay to anchor. Bonifacio on the south end of Corsica is a must - take a walk up the hill to the old town and if you are energetic, walk along the cliffs east of the town. Spectacular.....
Unless you are feeling very flush, give Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo a miss - we pay about a thousand euros a night to berth there, with water and electricity extra. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gifIn reasonable weather small boats can anchor in the approaches to P Cervo - no idea if you get charged for that or not.
If you want a night in a marina that will not break the bank, try Porto Otiolu to the south of Olbia - very friendly place and reasonable rates - boats up to about 30 m can fit without too much trouble.
Be prepared for windy weather in the Bonifacio Straits - almost always blowing a gale there - the Italian forecast gives a special section for Bonifacio!
Maybe aim for a night in Bonifacio and a night in Otiolu and anchor out the rest of the nights, either in the bays on the north end of Sardinia, or in the Magdelena islands....
Maybe see you there in the summer..... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Porto Cervo - a thousand euros - blimey, it only cost us the equivalent of 25 quid in February but we were one of only 4 boats there. That's what I call seasonal charging. Incredible.

Charter Sardinia - Good idea

I'd reckon it's the best part of the Central Med, especially that N coast.

Corsica is pretty good too, if expensive.

I've spent part of a couple of seasons there and will be back for a visit in April.

PM me dates and charter centre and I'll try and give more detailed advice.

I take it you're chartering from Alghero, it's a fair distance from the Maddalenas (Western Isles with more sun as one described it), but quite an easy trip.

Trouble is, a week is devilishly short to do more than poddle around a very small part of the island.

Great place for a charter. We took a week out from Portisco near Olbia and went through the Maddalena Archipelago off the NE coast - really nice. Also went across Straits (windy but not too bad) to Bonifacio, which we loved. Skip P Cervo between July-Sept - it's a superyacht destination with prices to match. There a marina on Isl Maddalena called Cala Gavetta that's cheap & friendly with plenty of good eating places. Porto Puddhu on Sardinia itself is a great anchorage - completely sheltered from swell and quiet. Lots of lovely anchorages all round - we'd do it again without question.
