Does anyone have the latest on the tax imposed on visiting charter yachts to the island of Sardinia?

I did hear rumours that it was to be lifted as the bigger boats were just not including Sardinia in their plans and going elsewhere, but cannot find any confirmation of this.

Thanks

yes, I live in Cagliari, Sardinia, and what I know is that the tax is imposed only on boats bigger than 14 metres LOA. It has not been lifted and the bigger yachts (they don't care too much about this tax) are not avoiding our ports. Tha tax amounts to 1000€ for boats between 14 and 16 metres, and arrives to 15000€ for LOA over 60 metres.
Sailboats and motorsailer pay the 50% (a boat of 15,99 mt LOA pays 500€ about)
Bye

So, my charter sailing cat at 17 metres would be liable albeit at a 50% rebate. Should have thought to ask this before but is this a one off tax for the season or would it be repayable on each visit?

I currently have an enquiry for a corporate one month charter and want to get the sums right!

Cheers

Hmmm. Would not be too sure all who have 14M plus boats don't care about the tax. I visited this past summer and got in / got out quick as paying 1,000 eu did not appeal to me.
If the tax did not exist I may well have spent longer and spent more moeny. Silly tax IMHO.

I know someone who was asked to pay 5000 Euro for the night and point blank refused to pay and moved on. It was an 84 foot vessel and despite the fact they are not short of a bob or two, they still don't like to get ripped off. I don't see how they can maintain the situation.

Hi,

We were there last year. At most places we were not asked for the tax (although I think the onus is on the visiting yacht to declare and pay).

The one place we were asked said that we would have to fill in a form for the tax but did not yet have to pay because there had been an appeal against the tax (I think it was an EU appeal but my Italian is not good).

He felt I would eventually have to pay and suggested I monitor the internet to check the status of the appeal.

The place was a local authority or government type marina (probably incorrect description but I believe they weren't private anyway). None of the private places asked.

Cheers,

Bob
