"Sara" rescue training on Sunday invited to St Pierre Pill to collect a donation cheque from CDYC members.
Reuben on the Right of the photo will be the "Commodore"from February for CDYC. It was sunny but cold and even colder on the River for the hardy volunteers crewing the Rib.
Visitors always welcome to the Pill and if you need a temporary mooring look at our website and we will endeavour to assist.

Re: \"Sara\" crew at ST Pierre on Sunday

We made our first visit to St Pierre Pill on Sunday. I think we saw the Sara rescue boat out somewhere between the two Severn Bridges. I always appreciate the work of teams like Sara and the Portishead lifeboat (and the other rescue services).

The pilotage into St Pierre Pill was top quality. The pilotage notes in the "Blue Book" are spot on. The thing I always find quite unnerving about entering pills in the Severn Estuary is that I have this image of the Severn being deepest in the middle and shallowing towards the sides. So when you're in 6m of water and 30ft from the shore on a leading line, it all gets a bit worrying and counterintuitive, but it does work. Another exciting aspect is that when you're in The Shoots area, the depth sounder goes wild (due to all the eddies): it's at that sort of time that you want to be feeling confident in the sounder for the pilotage in (and it's varying wildly). Maybe other people have better behaved depth sounders than mine...

We had a nice sail back to Portishead once past The Shoots (where the sea was a bit confused and the wind was fickle). It was a nice day to be out sailing: a good wind and some nice winter sunshine. Bizarrely it chucked it down in Bristol at 6pm!

Yes I was on Sarabande and welcomed you in,
Glad you visited us its not so difficult is it?

Come again when we have some warm weather, you can be assured of a warm welcome, The pontoon you saw on the slip side will take keels of 6ft in the mud.
