Sapphire flogging sails, Chi Marina!

Sapphire, pontoon N, Chichester Premier Marina had its mainsail partially flogging as the cover by the mast end had come loose and the jib which was half stashed into a sail bag on deck but still attached to the jib stay had blown over the side and the bag on deck blown backwards to the mast. Luckily the jib was hanging just above the water. I have tied the jib up etc and re fixed the mast cover BUT neither is a long term fix. I would visit it ASAP, as it was blowing a gale down there.

It's poor practice having the jib stuffed into a bag on deck in any conditions whilst still attached and a secure fixing needs to be put in place of just the zip on the mast end cover which can easily be blown loose (similar to the ones you have on the upper ends). No damage I can see but they were flapping quite hard so worth a thorough check. Good luck.

Chi is a Premier Marina so probably not worth the walk. If they were interested they'd have spotted it themselves while walking the pontoons. In my experience they don't look up from their phones while walking about.

Chi is a Premier Marina so probably not worth the walk. If they were interested they'd have spotted it themselves while walking the pontoons. In my experience they don't look up from their phones while walking about.
I’m a premier berthholder and was at Chichester for a few years. My experience completely unlike yours. I’d be amazed if this was a reflection of the experience.

You must have been either very lucky or just weren't paying attention. I was a Premier bertholder for 10 years at Port Solent and my experience is mirrored by pretty much every customer of theirs I've ever spoken to or read about on the forums. I never once witnessed them look at a boat, let alone fix a line or any other proactive actions, in fact it was a miracle to get a "good morning" from them. I did see three boats sunk on the pontoons in that time, each of which remained tied alongide but underwater for a matter of weeks. It took them two full weeks to get the power back on to my boat despite the issue being a tripped breaker which I told them about, which was due to a cable parting and entering the water. They also didn't notice the cable in the water despite it being in long enough to develop light fouling. The supply only got fixed because I stood there telling them where to look next and surprise surprise it was the next breaker box back, which was locked but had a very obviously tripped switch. There were broken shower and toilet fittings that remained broken for years and probably remain so to this day. On three separate occasions I was on visiting boats with friends and directed to berths which don't exist due to being replaced with floating docks for RIBs. If they inspect every day, they'd have known which berths do and do not exist!

Premier are not in it for the customer experience, they're in it to squeeze money from boat owners and I truly believe they see shareholders as the customer and boat owners as the product. A stark contrast to my new marina group who demonstrate a customer first attitude every single day.

When I worked in a marina,ems worth yacht harbour I assumed it was my duty to help and assist the berth holders seemed like that’s why the marina was there…..was always keen to advise on anchours,in those days CQR were the bees knees😊Besides chatting to sailers and solving their problems was fun

I worked at Chi marina and while I'm by no means Premier's greatest fan, I'm surprised to read that no-one noticed. Certainly the kind of thing that would have been noted on patrol and dealt with either immediately or the following morning when more staff arrive - it's single manning after 1700 in the winter and 2100-ish in the summer. But then they have have had quite a drop off in sailing experience levels among the team of late, staff turnover (not just a Chi but in most marinas is epic...mostly thanks to terms and conditions we keep our boat at Northney nowadays and there's only one member of the team working there now that was on the strength this time last year)

You would think that wouldn't you? Indeed there were liveaboards on strength, but for reasons I've never understood the company took the position that it wasn't a good thing and changed the T&Cs (employees get discounted berthing) with the result that it wasn't worth their while to carry on working at the marina...as I say never really understood the logic but there were lots of things that seemed to elude logic...
