... he thinks you have been a wonderful yottie this year, helping PWCs out of distress, and not swearing at powerbots that nearly drown you with their wake.

Consequently, SC would like to give you any yacht you choose, including accessories. However, you cannot sell this boat within 5 years, the boat will be mored/stored at your current location, and your financial situation has not changed, but the boat will be insured for the first five years.

Which boat would you choose, and why?

Vancouver 34 Pilot House

Big enough, but no too big.

Separate bedroom in a comfortable part of the boat.

Top notch build quality.

Good seakeeping.

Good load carrier for extended cruising.

Sensible cutter rig.

Nice 'indoors' for when the weather turns moist.

Downstairs is not too much of a cellar.

Re: Vancouver 34 Pilot House

I almost bought one of these second hand, but the owner was selling in order to go bigger. I came to the same conclusion, they are just too cramped!
I thing the Vancouver 38's are really nice boats but I have been put off Northshore by the snotty, self conceted attitude of the main salesman who I have met on several occassions at several boat shows. The wife sensed the same attitude and we all know who wears the trousers in the final showdown. Think I'll ask SC for a Bowman.

Re: Vancouver 34 Pilot House

Santa will first have to revive Bowman since they have gone under a few weeks ago.

Why not one of those Island Packet jobs?

Good sea keeping qualities
Built to last with good spec and designed for short handed sailing could go anywhere but maybe the finances don't run to it.

Santa is supposed to be bringing me one although it seems his schedule is going to delay him until mid next year.

Whatever Santa brings enjoy it

Did Bowman really go under? I haven't heard those news. I really liked them and in particular the MD Mr. Maunder. Great boats great quality and we had a Riavl 41 for 13 years. Must admit though that I was untruthful lately and got a Swedish boat that I really love, so that SC doesn't have to get me another boat.

Re: Bowman

Harald, do a search on Bowman and a thread called Bowman Rival call in administrators appears. I know it's a real shame I have always dreamt of owning one, ever since I was a kid, but I also wanted a CN since my Father had one and that never happened either.

It all ended up with a French bath, a German stinkpot and an American bath (about to arrive)

Re: Bowman

Found it! This is very sad news. Really liked the company, hope somebody will get interested and bail them out. I can only say good things about them. Saw that they only tuned over £3.7 M this year, surpricing given how good these boats are and how many boats Oyser and BSI sell in that class. Time for SC to buy a few.

QE 2 please....with all the staff to help me about .They say young chicks love cruising...Hell I had better change my mind. At my age a young chick would give me a heart attack. So I will settle on a 48' van de stadt.. centre cockpit.

Their absence on the Boat Show exhibitors list was ominous.

As my main criteria are a large cockpit and saloon with lots of free flowing ventilation and shaded areas plus stability at anchor, my choice would be a 30-foot Catamaran very similar to the Main 30, (you can view it at their web site listed below). The construction can be foam sandwich or western red cedar strip composite, I think the timber strip is the way to go, a bit more work but a lot stronger and durable.
My reason for choosing this type of craft is that it provides enough space and stability to get others into sailing and well suited for my area, the Whitsunday Islands off the Queensland coast eastern Australia. Merry Christmas.
