i plan to move my boat to spain in the new year and spending 3 months of the summer there. Sant carles seems to tick alot of boxes.i would hope to rent first to see if we like it. Do they have a layup facility there over the winter? it would be great to hear of peoples experiences advice etc.

robert

Thanks Clive (Suncoast)

Yep - we are at Sant Carles
The problem to overcome in your mind is that it isnt finished yet.
However, it is being used and has IMO great potential and it should come into its own sometime during this season.
On site swimming pool, pontoon berths and walking distance from the town etc...
Yep - there is huge boatyard - not sure if they are planning on using it for "laying up" but they have a big travel lift and good concrete base for the yard.
I believe that the boat yard is now finished - we will be over there in a couple of weeks so I will be able to comment then - I'm planning taking our boat out of the water for antifouling etc sometime during March and this is where she will be lifted.

The marina is set just south of the Ebro Delta, behind a 6 mile long lagoon thus providing excellant protection from the sea. It is managed by MDL - the British marina chain - give them a call or pm me for the email address of the marina manager.

thanks hurricane ive sent them a mail through their site so hopefully i will hear something back after the hols. have you done much exploring of the coast since you moved your boat down?

robert

No, but we know the area quite well - my parents had a villa about 25 miles away.
The immediate coast is a bit sparse.
The lagoon seems quite good for a quick anchorige when there isnt time before a flight home of if the weather a bit rough.
I'm thinking of it being a bit of a base - Majorca is only a few hours away.
We've got a trip to Malta to do this year so we are going further afield this year.
Still got to some local exploring to do though.

Neil Salter is the boss there - used to look after me here in Brixham at the MDL marina. Good chap. If you don't get any joy via email, give him a call.

We arrived in SC in September (not as brave as Hurricane, Buster was delivered by lorry!).

Already had a lot of fun, been over to Majorca for a couple of weeks, looking forward to a hop down to Denia then 50Nm to Ibiza in 2009.

We really like it in SC. I agree the local coastline seems at present a little dull, but the nature reserve is great, I look forward to exploring in 2009!

Love the lagoon for some quick trips out, completion of the new marina: making good progress! Neil is doing a good job and all staff I have met have been very helpful! 8/10 so far!

i received my pack by email today prices seem good especially the 4 year rental deal. I hope the 10 day overnight per month limit does not become an issue as i plan to spend most of the summer there. How was the crossing to majorca? This is a trip i would love to do although i would need to fit some kind of aux as the leader 805 only has a single diesel.

Trip over to Majorca was fine except for running very low on diesel, even with 20% fuel in reserve. Excellent in Majorca; Pollenca, Alcudia and Soller.

Return journey was very choppy, wind F4/5 whipped-up quite a swell for 80Nm, then as it settled down 20Nm out from SC we picked-up a polythene sheet which shut down the port engine! Limped home but good experience after the event!

I've just finished setting up an internet forum just for Sant Carles berth holders.
Its up and running but we are still gathering people together to join in.
I'm hoping that we will be able to discuss and recommend things between us.

Perahps we could do some cruising in company sometime - for those of you that are worried about single engines etc..

I fully intend on cruising over to the islands - in fact I consider it a bit like a crossing from the Solent to the Channel Islands.

things are shaping up quite well i think i have found a company to haul the lunasea to spain. It looked as if permits etc would be needed but as it turns out the beam is just under the limit which simplifies the job. Finding a spot to install holding tanks is the next hurdle.
