I'm planning to do the following trip in June, around 500NM with some leeway, with maybe one or two other similar sized boats starting from Sant Carles, we hope to leave first week in June subject to the usual:

Day-1 SCM - Valencia: 85NM Stay 2 Nights Marina
Day-3 Valencia - Denia: 41NM Stay 2 Nights Marina
Day-5 Denia - Botafoch/Ibiza: 68NM Stay 5 Nights Marina
Day-10 Botafoch/Ibiza-Cabrera: 74NM Stay 2 Nights Buoy
Day-12 Cabrera-Andratx: 37NM Stay 2 Nights Marina
Day-14 Andratx-Columbretes: 84NM Stay 1 Night Buoy
Day-15 Columbretes-SCM: 44NM Home Berth

I have emailed Botafoch and Denia marinas but wanted to know the procedure for booking a buoy and picking up a permit to visit Cabrera, I wondered if any of you that have done this recently could help.

Any other useful advice appreciated.

I also want to know which marina in Andratx might be best to book.....!

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Sounds like a lovely trip! In Andratx I prefer the town quay which is to starboard (south) as you come in. It's on the town side of the bay so much easier to get to the shops etc though you'll need to drop your anchor and back up to the harbour wall unless you're under about 14mts. There is leccy and water and the marineros will probably be around to help. For my 18m boat in July/Aug it's about €60 so about a third of the cost of the yacht club. You can't book but that should be ok in June - it's usually fine in August! Just turn up and radio in.

Can't resist suggesting that rather than spending 5 nights in Botafoch at, no doubt, huge expense, you spend a night or two on the hook down in Formentera. Quite the most beautiful Caribbean-esque anchorage in the Med (although there should be buoys laid in Espalmador bay to the north of the island if you prefer). Sabina town (a few miles south of Espalmador) is great for restaurants etc. You could then go on to Ibiza town for 3 nights before heading over to Cabrera. Just a thought!

I completely agree with Medmilo that it would be a shame to miss a few days anchored off the stunning beaches at Formentera. If you have even the slightest doubt, just google-image it John. Actually I've only ever been there once but I plan to go back when I make the time

Sounds like a really nice trip. Remember your camera ;-)

Weather permitting we are planning to visit Formentera in May - do you know if the buoys in Espalmador can be booked and also berths at La Savina ?

Sounds a great trip - wish we had time to do something similar !

Couple of points from me, John

I phoned Andraitx a couple of days ago and they seemed reluctant to take bookings - 7 days max so you may be able to book
Apparently needed the Captains approval

Also Ibiza will be very expensive - in June 3 years ago, they wanted 400 euros per night for JW - so we went to Sant Eulalia which is much nicer anyway.
But staying on the anchor would be better if the weather is right.

Not sure of our movements at the moment - still throwing balls into the air to see what comes down

Mike-

Some good advice coming in from here and the SCMCHAT forum, all going down in the book so thanks, I will certainly take the camera JFM that's for sure....!

Mike-

Thanks Mike: I'm pressing on with passage plans as I thought you might wish to take another route, I know Lester wants to take his Azi-42 to Ibiza, not sure yet if he wants to move on with us from there, but I know Keith is up for the trip in his F43, so likely two of us through Ibiza-Cabrera-Mallorca-Columbretes-SCM. The Columbretes of course only if we get the right weather/conditions, not a deep water buoy this time :-) If not a run for home.

Not sure about the buoys being bookable - I've never tried to pre-book as I usually stay on the hook a bit further down the coast. Berths in La Savina are definitely bookable and the marina office are extremely helpful - they will know whether you can book an Espalmador buoy and will no doubt have contact details etc.

Use this website to book buoys in Espalmador. You are only permitted to book two nights in 8 days, arriving after 12.00 each day and leaving after your second night before 12.00 if the new boat arrives for the bouy.

http://www.balearslifeposidonia.eu/index.php?register_vars[lang]=en

After 6.00pm each evening, any reservations not taken up the bouy is available to who ever takes it.

We have had no problem staying a week at a time, sometimes it does involve moving a few times between avaialble bouys.

Here are some pics of the anchorage off restaurant Tiberon on Formetera.

I think this was June time of year hence it being quiet. July / August is totally different story. Sometimes you cannot find space to anchor. Or people come and anchor right over the top of you. There are some nationalities that do this then proceed to strip off to sunbathe naked..... I wouldn't mind but it's usually the big hairy ones and that's the women?...

You can anchor on both sides of Espalmador so check forecast and anchor accordingly.

There's also a beautiful anchorage on SE corner of Majorca called Rapita, lovely crystal clear water.

I would avoid Ibiza town unless you have youngsters that want to party. Expensive expensive expensive.. We pay circa €1200 per night in the summer.

If your into scuba diving there are some in dives here. Go to scuba shop at back of Botafoch nice company.

Hi Coral Rae
Have you made it to Ibiza we are heading out early next week and were looking at Ibiza town etc so if ou are there it would be good for an update.
