Hi SCM gang,

We've pulled in here at short notice during a boat test. Can anyone recommend a restaurant for the evening?

Thanks for any help,

Jack

What do you fancy?

Restaurant Espania at the top of the town does an amazing steak - though if you have vegetarians with you it's probably not suitable. To get there walk all the way along the front until the road turns up hill. Go uphill to the roundabout and head straight over. The restaurant is on the left after the next roundabout. Opens late though, like 9pm onwards.

Another good choice is piccolo for very good pizza and pasta. Same route as before but up the hill on the right you'll see a square with the Sant Carles hotel on the corner. Enter the square and piccolo is half way along on the left. Opens about 8pm

There is an excellent tapas place if you want genuine Spanish food - it has a roof terrace and is quite swish.
Walk along the front from the marina. Opposite the community hall before you get to the town marina is a triangular 'square' on your right. At the back of this square facing the sea is the restaurant. White building with tables undercover out the front and the roof terrace.

Final recommendation for a good paella is Mar Y Luz on the Main Street by the only set of traffic lights. Again from the marina walk along the front and turn right at the Verado. Go up this road to the traffic lights and turn right. The restaurant is on the right.

Which berth are you on?

Hi
If you are on expenses (!) then the restaurant at the Miami Mar hotel is very good indeed, opens about 9pm.
Walk along the front until road turns up the hill, go up hill and approx 100yards, take first turn on left and hotel is along this road. Wonderful fish and actually not that expensive. Otherwise agree with above suggestions but add Bonsai Pizzeria which is always a safe bet - walk along front again and turn right at the Veradero restaurant, up to traffic lights and turn left and Bonsai is 200yrds on the right. The Miami is good if you want to know what restaurants were like in 1986.
Can't help unfortunately; berthed there for a year an didn't find anywhere decent to eat :(

Tapasanta at the end of the street opposite the Hotel del Port is always good.

A quick registration on SCMChat will give you an extensive list of local restaurants with addresses and ratings

The marina bar does an acceptable steak and chips for about ten pounds! It's average but at least you don't have to go far and you can have as much to drink as you like before toddling back to the boat! Don't drink and drive the local police are quite hot and will fine you on the spot at least €300.

Thanks very much to you both for the recommendations. Just leaving the boat now so will scout one of those places out.

Jez - not sure of our berth, looks like a visitor berth to me. She's side-to on a long, concrete dock.

Thanks again guys.

More importantly, what boat is it any why the short notice stop?

Not sure why the stop but they appear to be in a Jeanneau flybridge 630 something and a baby sister Jeanneau 30! Both look brand new and probably been at the Barcelona boat show. Both look very nice.
Hope you found somewhere nice to eat Jack and have a safe onward journey.
Ps don' tell everyone about our little town here as we are trying to keep it a secret!! :0)
Regards David.

We settled for Mar Y Luz in the end and were not disappointed. Thanks for the recommendation, Jez, as an Englishman in an unfamiliar Spanish town, picking a restaurant for six French people was a daunting prospect! We all left very happy and full of paella and Rioja.

We were supposed to do Barcelona to Valencia in a day but for various reasons (including a hideously slow refuel in Barcelona) we cut the trip in half. I'm glad we did.

As has been mentioned, we're testing the Prestige 630 and some French journos are doing the Leader 30.

Thanks again for all the responses, everyone.
