I am in Calasetta at the moment and need to go to Sant Antioco tomorrow to get a SIM card. Since there are no taxis and the complexity of the Sardinian bus service somewhat eludes me I am wondering about simply taking the boat there.

In Rod Heikel's Italian Waters Pilot there is a general comment about depths being 1.5m in the channel. We draw 1.3mts however I would rather not run aground (again!). Is there anyone with actual experience of this port?

We went in last year. Never less than 3m in the channel. A couple of channel markers are missing , 3 and 4 from memory. It's the port hand ones that are missing, so leave the singles to starboard.

We anchored in 1.2m on the mud bank opposite the town. But I guess you'd get a berth alongside. Or anchor just N of town, where there are fishing boats.

We wimped out (well I did..) and took the bus. SIM card and amazing lunch, success! Luckily my distraught expression upon being told I'd not validated return ticket (next bus in 3 hours) was enough for kindly bus driver to take us anyway with no charge, his skill navigating through a tiny village with oxen driven procession, calvary and parked cars was worthy of applause. Lesson learnt, next time take the boat :)
