Any tip on how I should sand the caulking for my teak deck. The external caulking is butted up against the GRP. I expect if I get too carried away with the belt sander I will sand all the GRP away.

So what is the secret of getting a nice edge without destroying the GRP.

Aargghhhh!!

Please don't use a rotary sander, you'll just make a mess. If you need to power-sand, use a light DIY belt sander with very fine-grade abrasive. Is this the new teak you were putting in your cockpit?

Yup... I have belt sanded most of the teak, and stuck it down. Just pondering on the best way of doing the edges without destroying the GRP... Doing it by hand is going to be a long old task.

mask grp with plastic tape fill deck edge with caulk remove tape in a cross deck line, ie to set level, let set
cut off with a knife / chisel first

personally I find a wet soapy one cuts best. then sand with one of those belt files, using a plate against the grp.

works for me against epoxy painted steel
