Sandbanks ferry mishap

Just saw this in my local paper:

Not quite sure how they managed to attach themselves to the front of the ferry, maybe cutting it too fine to get past - it is on the Haven Hotel side of the channel. Strong current there but plenty of room.

Looks like it ended OK though and well done to those that helped.

Possibly the yacht skipper failed to notice that the ferry was just departing, and went too close in front, the drive chains are not far below the water once it is moving and may have snagged the keel?

He is far from the first yachtsman to fall foul of the ferry and I am sure he won't be the last. Well done to the guys that helped with the children.

when you watch the video, its a health and safety nightmare. Passengers hoping off the front of the ferry, small children being passed across... I bet when the ferry operator sees this heads will role. Eventually someone in high vis wanders over, I guess perhaps part of the chain ferry crew.. but may just have been a trucker on board...Now I do laugh a bit at Health and Safety, as does I think anyone born before the 70's does. However there must be a procedure in case of collision or any emergency where public transport over open water is concerned, this is just dangerous imho... but great that people actually helped and did not just sit there filming it on their phones!
