san lorenzo 1878

what is the model?
16M, 14M, 20M
if its this age will be surely wood
still very nice Yachts IMO
check also for Canados, Versilcraft, Tecnomarine, Lavagna Admiral, and Pisas of the same age and type
IMO all look nice but San Lorenzos still has something more on the looks department
if you are interested I have a Canados 60 which might go for cheap

thanks for the info.
looking at 16 meter. (57 ft) wood. 1978 model. seems lovely but worried bout engines. may need work on them or replace.
regards. james.

Engines are probably Detroit Diesels ...

V8's... 71 series I'd hazard to guess...

Dry Liners, easy to work on and spares cheap.... Full re-build would set you back about £1.500 per hole ...

... if they are Detroits, let me know the series and HP rating... and I may be able to give you some advise on what to look for etc...

If Detroit and that age ... then, yes ... two strokes...

53 series known for being noizy.., but very reliable ...

71 series quieter and the most reliable series engines DD ever made ....

92 series never reached the same reputation as the 71 for reliability ...

All should be good for 40K hours plus.... in not too "hot-rod" applications...

I worked on a cruise-boat (20 metres) with twin 8/92's, running 115 injectors, claiming just under 700 HP each. Wasn't that bad on fuel, good service life, but I don't think they like long periods of low revs, they need to work.

Agree... all DD two strokes enjoy themself best under load ... and perhaps even above 50% load....

You can run them low... but best at about 11 - 1200 (just before the turbo kicks in) for long periods as long as you get the temperature up... What they do not like is idle and "no load". They will also be "thristy" at idle compared with a modern 4 strokes as there are more mechanical parts (and friction) to move around.
