Samurai Auto & Marine Ltd

If thats the way they deal with you when you want to buy something from them, what are they going to be like when you've got a problem?

Agree if what happened to WhiteKnight was indicative of their products. Was it this company that got into all sorts of problems when the MD's wife left & cleared him out??

Im gonna cry in a minute, I thought I might have my boat working for at least the end of summer /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I saw Whiteknight in the workshop when I went there to have a look around a while back. I was trying to get an idea of how good an outfit they were. Seemed helpful but the place is a shed in the middle of nowhere full of some really filthy looking old engines but the finished articles look OK.

Maybe Kismet Hardy should have a look at the back issue of MBM that featured WhiteKnight before he jumps in there.

There is another outfit over in essex somewhere that deal in MarineDiesel V8s. Import from Sweden and properly marinised, not a Humvee engine with a conversion kit.

can't say i'm overely keen on Samurai's need to attack the bell housing with an angle grinder to fit the starter motor either. Must leave a weak point there , but wasn't that where most of WhiteKnights trouble came from!

I'd be careful.

some of the description is inaccurate too - the leg is the standard DP290 unit that was attached to the previous v8 volvo taken out of the boat and not a 'special'. I have emailed the seller to advise and we will see if they make any changes!

I would not buy this boat without a sea trial, and that includes running the engine up properly for a couple of miles, but if everything ran smoothly it could be a real bargin because a fortune has been spent on it - covers, cushions, trim, electronics inc radar all done beautifully.

If anything goes wrong mechanically you wouldn't appear to have anyone to come back on as this thread suggests.
I don't know it' s history for the last 12 months but the on water picture doesn't look like the same boat as it doesn't have the radar.........

Hi Jeff,

How's it going?, I must of missed the stories of White Knights troubles,I saw this boat on ebay, sounds like some poor sod is going to buy a load of trouble!,did you see that they auction company operate just up the road from you at Exeter?.

Are you out'n'bout this weekend? I shall be out on saturday, might see you then.

cheers,
Nige'

Nige,
It might not be trouble but the auction house and buyer are both in a difficult position.
If you could take it out adn run it a couple of hours then OK, it's working and you are in the same position as any other buyer of a second hand boat where suport for you engine and it's installation is lacking (assuming Samuri have folded).
However you are buying as seen under their terms and conditions and I'm not sure you would find anyone to say it's done 20 happy hours (for example)!
It is 'fully loaded' with every conceivable item; but it's also a touch stern heavy with that installation and huge davits (a tender!).
The boat used to run like a dream with the 5.0 VP petrol engine..........

I take your point,I would be very jumpy about buying a boat off an auction site.
As it is, I have a weekender with a diesel conversion(Lancing Marine) and I'm very
happy with it, it too is stern heavy, I have davits with a tender on & an aux' engine
on the stern, she still goes well enough for me.
I agree that white knight looks a fine boat, bit of a gamble though /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did anyone notice the high bidders tag (as is stood on the link). "Barkingmad" I think he/she must be with the history of that boat.

I really wouldn't have much confidence in it after all that it has been through.

Hi Nige

Yep, I know the company are not far from me. Never been out there though. They did have a nice Princess 45 a while back but far to much money for a mere mortal like me.

Not sure about the w/e yet. Out on Friday eve with the gang from work trying to kill ourselves with GoKarts. May drive down afterwards and spend the w/e aboard if weather is going to be kind. If I do, I'll give you a shout on the Radio or may see you up river for a beer.

Cheers

an interesting proposition for the purchase of a boat with a history - buying as seen, through an internet auction, from a liquidation agent............

imagine - you launch, engine doesn't start then boat sinks.........everyone shrugs and points to the large print!

some might say it's little different buying new froma main dealer but they're just cynical... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
