So I needed some replacement brushes ...

Lofrans 'Original' items

Industrial quality brushes that will fit with a light trim with my file

BTW the $95 items were less than UK Lofrans suppliers wanted. WTF !

try going to decathlon and looking at their lifejackets and weather proof sailing gear lol , I was shocked at how cheap you can actually stuff at , ie , life jackets and sailing jackets .

Not surprised at this at all.

My windlass was about 7 years old at the end of last season and it's used almost every day during our summer cruises around the med. I thought it would be worth getting some spares and checked the price of brushes for a Quick Antares. It was £84 for a kit, plus delivery. I don't know what they'd have in the kit apart from brushes and a couple of seals you could do without.

I thought the risk of needing new brushes was low and simply took the time to examine them this year. They were perfect and had exactly the right colour and surface texture. Commutator was also OK. So no need to do anything but I did take measurements and will probably buy some spares for 2017 or 2018. They should be pretty cheap as long as I avoid people selling to the leisure marine industry.

Check bargainbrushes.com next time.
I am just looking for brushes for the bow thruster. Some sets from Vetus are listed as £200.

The Wi-Fi in the hospital where I am currently residing blocks PhotoBucket :(

I can't see the images, but any more info on brushes to fit Lofrans or Vetus would be a useful resource.
Mine is a Lofrans Tigres (I think), with the motor mounted on a bronze clamp fitting that hangs below the windlass itself.

Here is the link to the ones I have used. They are perfect width (smallest size), and about 2mm broader, which files off very easily. I will need to fit some lugs as this motor has just two brushes so I had to cut the lead.

Get well soon.

This is the Lofrans Tigres. We had some new brushes for ours two years ago from AR Peachment the distributor. As far as I remember we paid about £40 for a set including postage. We couldn't find them online but rang up and the nice man was very helpful.

Seems the pic won't come up. however it is a horizontal windlass with the motor behind it.

Think I would be OTT on the helpful side if I was making a sale of 40 quid on something that cost me just a few pennies.

Postage is £6, more than the brushes. Anyone interested if I buy in bulk?
I assessed price on the overall cost, which was still way way less the OE parts, but yes £6 for delivery did exceed the cost of the brushes, but I only have one windlass.

The bearings are cheap as chips of EBAY, but getting them off was a grinding cutter on the dremel with final split with a cold chisel. I could have left these but as it was in bits I thought it prudent to change them.

I had came across the same problem with brushes for a the trim and tilt motor on an outboard. It was a long time ago but I got them copied by a company for next to nothing. If I remember correctly it was Carbon Products.
