Samos Marina what do we know about it.

We are looking for a base in the Eastern Agean for a year. Kos is full Rhodes seems an unknown quantity but Samos has availability. Is it well sheltered from the Meltemi, what are the services like, security,facilities yes I have been on to their website. Transport links flights ferries. All comments welcome.

The summer Meltemi... it is sheltered from.... Winter southerlies can be destructive and dangerous.

Not that I have any experience at Samos, but in general...I say they should not be underestimated.

It's one of the better sheltered marinas, with very little surge from any wind direction. Entrance points east, towards Turkey, 5nm fetch. Any surge, and big swell from the south, is dispersed with two staggered baffles in the entrance.

The only snag is that the marina has too little business, so the chandlery has shut. Usual good cheap fishermen's supplies in the town. I don't know how good they are at cataolgue supplies from Athens - the chandlery was good at that.

Nice town and island; more going on than in Leros.
