I co-arranged a club trip up to Saltfleet this weekend. Well worth a visit easy channel although buoys are a little on the small side to spot, never had less than 2 meters of water. Found good moorings for 6 visiting yachts with drafts between 2ft 6 and 4ft. Very friendly local boats and Billy the commodore came out to meet us in his boat to show us the way in. Not to be undertaken in onshore winds though. Thank you to any saltfleet lads reading this.

Alex, been looking at Saltfleet as a possible alternative mooring to Fosdyke, any idea what the results of the over winter mooring trial were ?
Normal routine is for them to come out but I understand they did a trial last winter, leaving boats in

Hi Dave,
not sure what the results where, but know they have had trouble in the past with break In's etc. What about Wainfleet Haven, I know our channel has a bad reputation but really it's not a problem and accessible in all wind directions.

Have a look at our website www.skegnessyachtclub.co.uk our winter arrangements are either craning out (around £35 depends on numbers) onto the hard standing or a mud berth (free) or you can leave her in(also free).

Also our club is much more active with at least 3 boats out on spring tide weekends and often 6 or 7 boats out.

If you fancy visiting by boat get in touch and I will show you the way in.

sorry for the sales pitch.

Saltfleet isn't a bad spot, but there is a mooring shortage. They are hoping for a few more to be built this year, but there is a waiting list.
There were 2 or 3 boats left in all winter, didn't hear of any trouble.

I'm still trying to decide whether to move from Boston, Wainfleet and Saltfleet are on the "possible" list.

Might end up staying put for another year.

Thanks for the offer Alex, may well take you up on it. I had heard about the break in problem which is one good thing about Fosdyke, but also need to think about getting out a bit more and reducing the costs. Wainfleet promotion welcome too, hadn't thought about that

well have a think and maybe I could show you and Ken the channel one day and you could meet some of the other members we are a friendly bunch, with a very good social side too. I think we have a couple of moorings spare but would need length of boat, draft and keel aranngments to comfirm.
