Back before Cottontail did her impression of one of the sets from Das Boot we suffered an ingress of sea water into the carb, which was later flushed with more sea water. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Any road up, I finally got around to stripping carburetor down this weekend and lo and behold there was a fair amount of salt in there. I have cleaned it out but I dare say some will remain, is there a sneaky way to flush out the offending particles? I had some success with an outboard's carb with one of the common fuel treatments - is this likely to do anything?

The engine is a single cylinder two-stroke inboard.

You may be lucky, good soak in petrol and blow the jets, with a high pressure air line, it is possible that corrosion has got into the fine cross drillings, in this case, the carb maybe scrap, although I have salvaged carbs in the past by lifting the blanking tabs and "clearing passages" this may take time and a bit of skill ! Good luck Greg

I would pull the carb apart, wash in water and then carb cleaner and put it back together watching out for corrosion in jets, butterfly bearings, etc. Should be OK so long as it hasn't sat in salty environment for too long.

Arfter a good wash in carb cleaner I would boil gently in water. this should desolve any sait. Dry thoroughly and reassembly carb.
