Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can get a saloon table that will fit a Sigma 36? Happy to modify something. I have thought about building from scratch but an old one to start from might be the best bet.

That is awesome!

I'm also looking for a new table, as our one is too big. Not sure I can cope with making it smaller, the fiddle is the tricky bit.
Beautiful table, i wonder if they will let me have the plans in order to scale down to 3ft? The specification looked quite low; I couldn't see anywhere to store the wine glasses and bottles.
Mine is too small at 18 inch diameter.

I had one made, they reused the original fiddles, and resteamed them to the new shape. I had it with 2 drop leafs, fiddles in the narrow section when the table is folded, a three bottle wine stowage, an access panel to the keel winding mechanism.
The local expert French polisher also bleached the teak venerr to match the 5 years of sun fading on the rest of the cabin woodwork, and then sprayed the whole thing in matt varnish to match the Jeanneau production process.
It's brilliant.

About £750

I doubt you're going to find a spare table lying around to modify. They're part of the boat, and not the sort of thing people remove and sell. Best break out the saws and router and get cracking!

I recommend ply with a nice veneer for the main surface, with solid wood trim (also acting as fiddles) to hide the laminated edges. You can try to use all solid, but boards wider than 6" get expensive fast (so a lot of biscuit or spline joints) and you're fighting a constant battle against warping and twisting. Finish with five or six coats of standard Epifanes (first few thinned as per instructions) followed by two of rubbed-effect. Use a tack cloth vigorously to remove all hints of dust from the grain before varnishing - ideally, do the finishing in a different place to the cutting and sanding to avoid airborne dust.

If you are not worried about the type and grain of the wood then solid beech Lagan kitchen worktop from IKEA £60.00 for 2460 x606 x28mm. It could always be stained.

Good idea, I was leaning that way but thought about boxing the legs in with ply for storage, rather than a pedestal. Incidently the current pedestal on the tiny table is huge and looks like it comes from a dentist's chair, adjustable height.

That sounds like it is meant to drop the table down to bunk height to form a double bunk. But I think I prefer a choice of removable pillars to give table height or bunk height. Often slept on such...

Lagun do very nice ones and if you buy an extra bracket you can use it in the cockpit as well ... Seateach at Emsworth sell them (as do others) but check the price on-line before you go in - they tried to rip me off .... if you're buying on-line anyway it won't matter! Get the biggest one you can fit or you'll wish you had when you've got 4 people aboard and you've bought the small one!
About £230 all in or another £30 odd if you want an extra bracket ... last time I looked ... shop around on the internet.

Actually, I could add a tap hole and put a wine box in there

I read a while ago of someone who cleaned out the inside of his keel-stepped mast, brazed in partitions at deck and heel, then added a filler cap and a small brass pump, the latter mounted to the mast where it passed through the table. He then filled the whole lower portion of the mast with booze (I think the article said brandy, but that must have been a hell of an investment) so that it could be pumped directly into glasses at the table as required :)

My family have form in this regard.
In 1967, we took a camper van to Spain, and my Dad went to a wine merchant in Barcelona one day. On the last day of the holiday, he emptied the water tank, and sealed the tap with chewing gum. We then went to the merchant and had 22 gallons of Fundador Brandy or similar pumped in, and drive it back to Blighty. Fortunately, we passed through customs without incident......

Currently working for HMRC, but I expect the statute of limitations is up on that one. I already have a shelf with a sliding clamp for the red wine box and a set of optics from my Father in law, beer has a locker so table stowage is just for glasses.

I like the Ercol mod and will now trawl the internet for a suitable donor.
