this summer we will go to Corsica. I would like to go directly from Saint tropez or Nice, my wife prefers to go via Italy (Elba) and then Corsica. She's afraid the weather will change when we go directly.

We have a Fairline Targa 33, cruising speed about 20 knots.

Any suggestions?

get a forecast and ring a marina in corsica before you leave. It's 100sih miles from st trop. If it does blow up it's likely from the west, so you can back off and go eastwards to elba or the italian coast or round the back at bastia. St florent is good shelter, calvi not so good but fine and good for fireworks from the battlements on 14th july.

Why on earth go to Elba? Unless You have interest in visiting the ligurian coast, the direct way from french coast to Corsica (Calvi as first choice, St. Florent as alternative), is no problem.
Please not that IMHO Calvi bay is good enough, besides the marina, that is, to shelter a "coup de mistral" (a westerly blow which might happen in summer); France Meteo is usually rather trustworthy as forecasters. Please note that the Macinaggio marina, just south of Cap Corse on the east coast is a convenient shelter if needed.
Do enjoy Your crossing, taking a chance to observe, not disturbing, the presence of whales, as that part of Med is "Cetacean shelter area".
Cheers,
Gianenrico
